Survakari on New Year's at St. Trinity Church

1.Jan.2010 The survakari are an inseparable part of the Bulgarian New Year's/ Christmas folk tradition. They visit every house in the village, sing Christmas carols, bless the household for health, fertility and prosperity, pat the family members on the backs with their cornel-tree shepherd sticks again for good health, and in return receive small presents: wine, walnuts, cookies, money, etc. Venko, Rosen and I had a lot of fun doing the blessings in the festive hall, and so did the party guests. Happy New Year everyone!
