Sts. Cyril and Methody Day

23.May, 2010 The creation of the Bulgarian alphabet by the saintly brothers Cyril and Methody is an event of paramount importance in the Bulgarian history and culture. At a time when most of the present-day European nations did not even exist, the brothers elevated the Bulgarian literature, education, and culture to an unsurpassable height. Their alphabet was later spread among all Slavic nations, and served as a shield against enemy attempts to eradicate our languages and national identities. This year's celebration has a particularly high patriotic charge, for it falls in a year, which marks the hundredth anniversary of the St. Cyril and Methody Church.
